Building Your D.R.E.A.M.S. Fair

              The Georgia Southern University section of the Society of Women Engineers is hosting the 1st annual “Building Your D.R.E.A.M.S.” fair. SWE is a non-profit educational and service organization that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE’s mission is to stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and to demonstrate the value of diversity. SWE strives to create awareness in the science, math, and engineering fields and to generate a positive attitude towards technical careers. “D.R.E.A.M.S.” stands for helping students Design engineeRing sciEnce And Math Success. SWE’s President Kandice Herald said, "Students in their adolescent years are positively or negatively affected by math and science. With this event, we hope to inspire students and influence them to achieve a math, science, or engineering career." SWE’s faculty advisor Shonda Bernadin added, "This is a great opportunity to enhance the education of students and give exposure to engineering and technology." This event is set for Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the RAC Pavilion off of Old Register Road. It will be from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. There will be games, competitions, hands-on-experiments, and information on tutoring in the science and math fields. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of competitions. Several organizations from GSU will be participating along with SWE, including: the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Eagle Motor Sports, National Society of Black Engineers, Student Alliance for a Green Earth, and the Math Association of America. It is free to the general public. Lunch and t-shirts will be sold for a low price. The GSU SWE invites the GSU students, staff, and all of the community to come out and enjoy the majesty of science, math, and engineering!
